Decor elements Rulantica (Europa-Park)
Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, repeatedly named the best theme park in the world, opened Rulantica in 2019: a fully Scandinavian-themed water world full of Nordic myths, islands and sea creatures. In a park like this, decor isn’t decoration but the heart of the experience: every element has to fit the story.
We had the opportunity to create decor elements for Rulantica. We made the mascots at the park entrance, a popular photo moment for visitors, and added signage and atmospheric decor elements to two water slides, fully immersing visitors in the Scandinavian story.
The toughest test environment there is: a water park
Theming a water park is decor building on its toughest setting. High humidity, splashing water, temperature swings and thousands of visitors a day: materials that aren’t built for it look tired within a single season. That calls for materials and a finish that can withstand it, precisely the specialism we as decor builders grew up with in composite and plastics.
At Rulantica, the pool environment plays an especially important role: chlorine is an insidious risk for materials that aren’t resistant to it. That’s why we chose a special, chlorine resistant resin combined with the right paint class. This means the decor elements keep the same polished finish while being fully resistant to the demanding pool environment.
From concept to installation
The concept for the decor elements was supplied by Europa-Park itself. From there, we took over completely: from 3D modelling to mould making, from production to installation, and the latter literally overnight, since the park had to stay open to visitors during the day. One thing always holds true: having development and finishing under one roof is a practical advantage on international park projects: short lines of communication, tight quality control and a schedule without surprises.
Not our only Rulantica story
This project doesn’t stand alone: Snorri, Rulantica’s beloved mascot, also came out of our workshop and welcomes visitors at the entrance.
